The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Delhi High Court seeking a directive to prohibit the Netflix series “IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack” has been retracted. The petitioner’s counsel communicated that the inclusion of a disclaimer by Netflix, which specifies the actual names of the terrorists implicated in the hijack, has resolved the issues highlighted in the PIL.

The PIL was initially filed to prevent the broadcast of the mini-series, citing concerns about the misrepresentation of the hijackers’ identities. The petition alleged that the series inaccurately attributed Hindu names such as “Bhola” and “Shankar”—names associated with Lord Shiva—to the hijackers, who are actually named Ibrahim Akhtar, Shahid Akhtar Sayeed, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Zahoor Mistry, and Shakir. The petitioner argued that this misrepresentation not only skewed facts but also offended religious sentiments.
